Poolside rules & Discipline

  • Swim caps must be worn during lessons for safety and hygienic reasons.
  • Please remove ALL jewellery and plasters before swimming.
  • Suitable swimming costumes and trunks should be worn to aid swimming development.
  • Goggles should not be worn in levels between and including Adelie and Macaroni, as early water skills do not require them. 
  • Goggles are allowed at Emperor level and onwards.
  • All children must go to the toilet and shower before their lesson starts.
  • It not advisable to eat a heavy meal one hour before a swimming lesson.
  • Any child under 3yrs and who isn’t toilet trained must wear a swim nappy.
  • It is the parent/guardians responsibility to declare any behaviour, educational and medical conditions your child has.
  • No swimmer is allowed on poolside until there is a lifeguard present.
  • All parents and children must wait until the teacher indicates them to attend their lesson and at the end of the lesson must wait until the teacher sends them back. It is the responsibility of the parent to supervise their child/children at all times when entering/exiting the changing rooms and onto poolside. Do not allow them to run as the wet floor is a slip hazard.
  • Teachers, Assistant teachers and OCL staff will guide children to their designated lesson. This may require them to hold your child’s hand.
  • No swimmer is allowed to enter the water until they are told to do so by the teacher.
  • Parents are responsible for the safety of their child in the changing areas.
  • Parents are not allowed on the poolside unless invited.
  • Teachers and Assistant Teachers instructions must be followed at all times.
  • Children who disrupt lessons will be asked to sit out of the lesson for a two minute period. On the third occasion they will be asked to leave the lesson.
  • Parents/Guardians are responsible for taking their child to the toilet and in the changing rooms
  • The swimming teacher will use methods of manual support and guidance that are appropriate to the age and ability of the student to aid with water confidence, learning and contrasting activities i.e Jumping in & climbing out of the water.
  • Manual support will only be given when necessary and only for as long as it is required. This will be determined by the teacher.
  • The swimming teacher should be easily recognisable as the instructor by the wearing of a pale blue OCL “Teacher” T-shirt.
  • Oldham Aquatics Swim School reserves the right to exclude any person from lessons for a breach of these conditions or who they consider to be unfit to swim, a danger to themselves or others or who are displaying abusive or disruptive behaviour and if nessecary reasonable force will be used to escort you or your child from the premises inline with the centres Zero Tolerance policy.
