The John Muir Award (Added 09.07.10)

The Oldham John Muir award in partnership with the Oldham outdoor Pursuits Network

“The John Muir award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration.”

The award is open to all and encourages people to be aware of their environment to get to know it and how to preserve it. This is achieved in four ways:

“Discover”

“Explore”

“Preserve”

“Share”

The award will teach young people to learn to care for the natural environment and how to preserve it through exploring wild places and taking responsibility for it.

“I care to live only to entice people to look at nature’s loveliness” (John Muir; farmer, inventor, botanist, geologist, explorer, mountaineer, writer and pioneer of conservation).

For further information see the John Muir award website on what else the award entails and how to get involved.
